Nigeria and Mali Strengthen Bilateral Security Ties at BAMEX 2025

Nigeria and Mali have taken a major step toward reinforcing regional security as both nations committed to strengthening their defence cooperation during the Bamako International Defence and Security Exhibition (BAMEX 2025). The event, held in Mali’s capital, brought together top military officials, defence experts, and international partners to discuss emerging threats in West Africa.

In a strategic meeting on the sidelines of the event, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and Mali’s Defence Minister, General Sadio Camara, emphasized the need for deeper collaboration to confront rapidly escalating security challenges. Their discussions covered intelligence sharing, joint military operations, and support for innovative defence technologies.

This renewed partnership is particularly crucial as terrorist activities and insurgent groups continue to destabilize regions across the Sahel. By pooling resources and strengthening bilateral ties, both nations aim to improve operational capabilities and enhance regional responses to terrorism and cross-border crime.

BAMEX 2025 also showcased cutting-edge military technologies and encouraged stronger multinational cooperation. Images from the event highlighted official receptions, military delegations, and symbolic gestures of unity between Nigeria and Mali.

This development reflects a growing movement across Africa—as nations recognize that only collective action can effectively counter insecurity and protect civilian populations. The Nigeria–Mali partnership marks a significant contribution toward building a safer, more stable West Africa.
